The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the South Shores Christian Church in Decatur, IL. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m., in the Mt. Zion Township Cemetery with Steve Ingram, Minister officiating. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with services. Betty was born July 7, 1933, in Decatur, IL the daughter of John and Vera (Hooper) Rutherford. She married James Lowery on June 25, 1950. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2009. Betty was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Zion Christian Church. She most recently attended South Shores Christian Church.
Surviving are her children: Joan Walsh of Harristown, Jane Woods (Steve) of Dalton City, and Jim Lowery (Malora) of Mt. Zion; twin brother: Jim Rutherford (Phyllis) of Oakley; eight grandchildren: John Gambrill, Jill Gambrill, Melanie Gambrill, Brandon Lowery, Dylan Lowery (Olivia), Megan Lowery (fiancé Jordan Cuttill), Julie Cox (Dan) and Steven Woods Jr. (Melissa); fourteen great-grandchildren: Paige Moyer (fiancé Zach Whitsel)(both currently serving in the US Army), Madelyn Moyer, Olivia Jackson, Aaliyah Jackson, Devon Jackson (currently serving in the US Army), Keigan White, Addilyn Lowery, Madden Overlin, Alexis Cox, Cylis Cox, and Eli Cox; three step great-grandchildren: Nik Heard, Justin Heard, and Virginia Heard; brothers-in-law: Bill Lowery(Ruthie), Ronnie Lowery (Nancy), Bob Lowery(Mae), and Win Lowery( Thelma); sisters-in-law: Alice Hankins (Lloyd) and Frankie Dell (Dub); with many nieces and nephews also survive and her precious puppy: Lilly.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son-in-law: Tony Walsh, three sisters, and seven brothers.
