John Henry Burnside Jr., a longtime resident of the Ulster, Pa., community, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital, following declining health at the age of 87.

Born on March 1, 1930 in Moosic, Pa., John was the son of the late John H. and Anna Marie Radle Burnside.

He married the love of his life, Cora Alberta “Bert” Campbell, on Feb. 10, 1956 and together they cherished 61 wonderful years. In service to his country, John enlisted in the U.S. Army.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, camping and loved being a grandpa.

Surviving is his loving and saddened family, wife and companion, “Bert” Burnside, Ulster, Pa.; daughter and son-in-law, Anna M. and Chris Allen, Ulster, Pa.; son, Timothy Burnside, Ulster, Pa.; four grandchildren, Jessica (Ron) Ranck, Seth, Madisyn “Maddy,” and Abygale “Abby” Allen; one great-grandchild, Kendall Ranck, with another on the way; sister, Dorothy Woodard; brothers, Ed (Phyllis) Burnside, David Burnside, Bill (Paulette) Burnside, and George Burnside; several nieces and nephews, along with “Bert’s” family.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Irene; brothers, James, Oliver and Charles; and niece Emma Brown.

Family and friends will be received at Caywood’s Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira, on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 between the hours of 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 6:15 p.m. Full military honors will be accorded Mr. Burnside at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Bradford County Memorial Park at his family’s convenience.
