W. Val Dahle, of Logan, passed away at home on Saturday Aug. 24, 2013, from acute myeloid leukemia. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family.

Val was born on Oct. 6, 1929, in Clarkston to John LaVere Dahle and Nell Hendricks Dahle. He attended Clarkston Elementary, Smithfield Junior High, and graduated from North Cache High School.

Val served an LDS mission in the Central States Mission. Upon completion of his mission, he married his childhood sweetheart, Lorna Jean Griffin. They were married in the Logan Temple on July 11, 1952.

Val's early career was spent as a truck driver with Peterson & Vance. It was during this time that he made the decision to return to college. He spent the next 3 years attending Utah State as a full-time student while driving a truck to Salt Lake three to four nights a week.

He graduated with a degree in accounting. After graduation he spent two years working at Thiokol and 30 years with Jack's Tire & Oil.

Val held a number of callings in the LDS Church. He was a ward and stake financial clerk. He also served in the bishopric of a young single adult ward.

Val enjoyed bowling in his early married life but eventually moved to the game of golf. He loved the game and was a member of Logan Golf and Country Club for 45 years. He served as a board member for three years. He played golf with his wife, children and many good friends, and enjoyed three hole-in-ones. He also enjoyed winning many Father-and-Son tournaments with his son Roger.

Val loved his farm and spent Saturdays and evenings farming during the summer months. He was a good steward of the land and took pride in keeping both his land and his equipment in excellent shape. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling to St. George to escape the Cache Valley winters.

Val is survived by his wife Lorna J. Griffin Dahle and children, Susan (Chris) Tew, Diane (Allan) Summers, Roger (Mary Jo) Dahle, Penny (Duane) Martin, and Sharon (Mikel) Bowman. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clair, Norwood and Rodney, and his sister Gay Larsen.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Jeff Strong for his kind and compassionate care, their friends and neighbors for the love and support they provided, and Intermountain Healthcare Hospice.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug 28, at Nelson Mortuary (162 E. 400 North) and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the LDS church located at 1260 N. 1600 East. The funeral service will be at noon. The graveside service will be at the Logan Cemetery directly after the funeral.
