Donald Duane Hager was born on April 28, 1926 in Olivet, SD to Arthur and Hilda (Wentz) Hager. He was raised and received his education there. Following high school Don honorably served in the United States Army as his grandfather did in the Civil War.

Don was united in marriage with Alice Mogck on August 28, 1949 in Parkston, SD. Don and Alice were blessed with two daughters. Don first began working as a telegraph operator for the Milwaukee Railroad in Lewistown MT, then for The Chicago and North-Western Railroad in Hubbard, NE until making his home in Valley Springs, SD in 1956. While in Valley Springs, Don spent 33 years working as a salesman for the Livestock Commission in Sioux Falls, retiring in 1990. In his retirement Don continued working for 15-years at Red Wing Shoes.

Don in his younger years loved going dancing with Alice, socializing and playing golf; especially teaching his grandson to play. He also enjoyed building his model railroads, working in his yard, watching the Minnesota Twins, feeding the birds and squirrels. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Alice Hager of Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters: Cindy (Norm) Kramer of Rock Rapids, IA and Debra Donovan of Sedona, AZ; two grandchildren: Dan Kramer of Winter Haven, FL and Danielle Donovan of Tempe, AZ; one great-grandson: Kurdt Kramer of Burbank, CA; one brother, Lynn (Marge) Hager, Shelbyville TN; brother-in-law, Myron (Pat) Mogck of Parkston, SD; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
