LeRoy Elmer Howard, 85, of Oley, died September 25, 2017 in the Reading Hospital.

He was married August 25, 1951 to Naomi M. (McCord) Howard, who died October 28, 1999.

Born in Reading, PA on July 10, 1932, he was a son of the late Elmer W. and Helen R. (Moyer) Howard.

LeRoy was a farmer in the Oley Valley for over 40 years.

He was a past secretary and 15 year member of the Berks County Dairy Famer’s Association and was a 9 year committee member of the Berks County FSA, (Farm Service Agency).

LeRoy was also a 66 year member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, Local Camp 221, Limekiln and served as its recording secretary for 44 of those years. He was also the POS of A, State Camp treasurer for over 10 years, served as the county president in 1972; the state president in 1976 and the national president from 1989-1990.

Leroy was also an Oley Township supervisor from 1976-1990 and a member of the Oley Township Planning Commission from 1971-1976.

He is survived by six children: Glenn A., husband of Brenda (Cutler) Howard, Kevin D. Howard, Cindy J., wife of Craig Conrad, Duane L. Howard, Karen K., wife of William Krall and Sharon M., wife of Gregory Zook, all of Oley.

Other survivors include a sister: Shirley, wife of Eugene Heydt of Boyertown; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

LeRoy was predeceased by a sister, Esther Berndt.

Viewings will be held Thursday, September 28th from 5:30 – 8:00 pm in the Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley and Friday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 am in Christ Lutheran Church, 325 Covered Bridge Road, Oley, PA 19547 with a service starting at 11:00 am.

Burial will be in Oley Cemetery, Spangsville.
