Joe Franklin, 90, of Caldwell, ID, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 15, 2017 at his daughter and son in-law's home, in Sunnyslope, ID.

Born December 26, 1926, in Morrill, Nebraska to Josephus and Josephine (Thoesen) Franklin; the ninth child of nine children. In the 1930's the Franklin family moved from their farm in Nebraska to farm in Central Cove, ID where he attended school. He enlisted in the Navy the minute he turned 17 and was a gunner on the Liberty ship USS St. Thomas Augustus in the Philippine Islands and his ship was sunk by a kamikaze plane.

He met his wife of 66 years, Ione Stockman, on VJ day (August 14, 1945) and was wed to her on June 6, 1947, in Canyon County, Idaho. He worked for the City of Caldwell until he retired and then worked as a board member of the Irrigation district during retirement. He loved to hunt and especially loved to fish and you could find him most days fishing at one of his favorite fishing holes.

In addition to his daughters, Markey Block and Cheryl Franklin-Miller (Mike), he is survived by grandsons, Kevin Romero (Vickie), Rob Block (Bonnie), Jason Block and numerous great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ione; parents, Josephus and Josephine Franklin; brothers, Louis, Ethan, Theodore and Warren and sisters, Blanch Skeen, Marjorie Torrey, Irene Cline and Mildred Neff.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at the home of Mike and Cheryl Franklin-Miller on June 10, 2017.
