David Hiden Key's parents were George Washington Key and Harriet Jane Barnes Key. David Key's father, G. W. Key, was born in Lawrence County, AL, but grew up in old Tishomingo Co., Mississippi. The family moved to Coryell County Texas after the Civil War. George Washington Key, his wife, Harriet Jane Barnes, daughter Ada Key; along with his widowed father, George Washington Key Sr., brothers, William Augustus Key and Jefferson Davis Key, sisters, Lucy Ann Key and Sarah Caroline Key Hancock. The three brothers started a mill and gin business. There in Coryell County, the family grew; besides daughter Ada Key, there was Samuel D. Key, George Key, Mattie Key, Tandy Jefferson Key, David Hiden Key, Hyacinth Key, Lina Inez Key and Hattie Emma Jean Key. Tragedy struck in 1892 when the wells became contaminated with typhoid and many became sick or died. David Key's mother, Harriet Barnes Key and his two oldest sisters, Ada and Mattie died, Also his two oldest brothers, Samuel and George. David Hiden Key later married Laura Key. According to his death certificate, David Hiden Key died in Montgomery County, Texas and was buried at Garden Park Cemetery. His wife, Laura Key, died about two years later. I believe she is buried here also.
