Father: Seth Wheeler (1782-1863).
Mother: Mary Hulse (1795- ).

William Wheeler was born about 1815 in New York City and in youth served a 7 year apprenticeship as a carpenter and wheelwright in Fishkill. Later he worked for a similar period in Brooklyn. He was a Drum Major in the 22nd New York State Militia, the brigade that was commanded by Gen. William C. Little, of Goshen. Settling at Craigville, William was engaged there as a contractor and builder until his death, which occurred 2 Jul 1858, at the age of 43.

William married Sarah Elizabeth Braffett. William, Sarah, and their 4 older children were living in Blooming Grove, Orange County, in 1855.

At the time of William's death in 1858, Sarah was left with 6 children, the eldest of whom was 13 years, and the youngest 6 months old. Sarah afterward married Mr. Ruffs, and they lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Of the children of her first marriage, only 3 were living in 1895.

2- Ananias Buford Wheeler (1846-1924).
3- Lydia Jane Wheeler Watson Harris (1848-1929).
4- Edgar Eugine Wheeler (1852-1919).
5- Jesse E. Wheeler (1855-1868).
