ABINGTON Ind.- Laura Hicks, 86, of 4521 Front St.., Abington, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Oakridge Rehab and Specialty Care, Richmond.
She was born Nov. 3, 1914, in Clay County, Ky., to George and Mary Hensley Jones and had been a resident of the area since 1953.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Centerville.
Survivors include two sons, Willie Hicks of Robbins, Tenn., and Ray Hicks of Abington; four daughters, Edith Cheek of London, Ky., Norma Liebschutz of Abington, Halia Pate of Centerville and Bessie Scott of Westminster, S.C.; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Susie Philpot and Claudia Cottongim, both of Manchester, Ky.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Hicks; three daughters, Mary Ann Hicks, Ruth Hicks and Lou Vernie Hicks; one grandson; one great-grandchild; four brothers, David, William, Sandlin and Jim Jones; three sisters, Janie Rasner, Cynthia Baker and Lydia M. Bailey.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Doan & Mills Funeral, 790 National Road W., Richmond. The Rev. Larry N. Shelton has been asked to officiate. Burial will be in Abington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
