Jerusha Ann Buskirk grew up in Gosport, Indiana and was the daughter of John VanBuskirk (1792-1846) and Catherine Leabo (1799-1894). These three are all buried at this VanBuskirk Cemetery in NW Monroe County IN, across the river from the town of Gosport. Jerusha married Elijah Dunagan (c1827-1884) in Owen County, Indiana 8 Jun 1851. Both were living in Gosport at the time, Jerusha dying 22 Dec 1852 perhaps in child-bearing. By 1860 Elijah Dunagan is in Gentryville MO, and remarried.

Notes for ELIJAH DUNAGAN:
In 1850 was a cabinet maker in the Crisman Chair Factory in Gosport, Indiana while he was boarding with the Chrisman family. . There was a lot of business in the 1850's and 1860's for anyone who could prepare wagons and horses for the wagon trains west. His brothers did blacksmithing work. May have also been a minister. Made several trips to Gentry County, Missouri, possibly as a wagon master. Was a member of the Masons in 1864 in Gentry County and lived next door to his brother, Thomas, in 1864 in Gentryville, MO. At the Masonic Lodge, in Gentry County, Missouri they had to check their guns at the door before going to the meeting hall on the second floor above the Gentryville Baptist Church. There are letters that were written by Elijah to his brother Solomon in the possession of Richard Dunagan in Wisconsin.
