Duane Allen "Snookie" Book, 76 of Fertile, died Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Masks are strongly suggested by the family if attending services. Services will be livestreamed on Schott Funeral Homes website www.schottfuneralhomes.com. Burial of cremains will be held in Lincoln Cemetery, rural Fertile, Iowa at a later date.

Duane Allen "Snookie" Book was born November 10, 1945 in Forest City, IA, son of Albert and Dorothy (Branstad) Book. He attended Forest City Schools, graduating in 1965. He was married to Mary Lou (Alt) Book on December 27, 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. They had four daughters; Toni Rasmussen of Forest City; Jodi Book of Fertile; LouAnn Hare of Fertile; and Julie (Chad) Gentz of Forest City.

He and Mary Lou lived in surrounding communities before settling in Fertile, Iowa, where he has resided for 52 years. Snookie drove garbage truck for Winnebago Industries before he transferred to Waste Management, and worked for them 30 years before retiring in May 2012.

Snookie played softball over the years for the town of Fertile as well as a local team, Bob's Body Shop. He also loved to camp, fish, hunt, garden, and of course, his passion was junking and going to auctions. He also loved time spent with his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his four daughters; grandchildren, Jon, Samantha and Jacob Rasmussen; Jordin Manns; Ashley O'Donnell, McKenzie, Jesse, Nevaeh, and Melita Hare; Hailey Gentz, Mikaela and Coltan Kessler, Sidney and Danika Gentz. Survived also by his great-grandchildren…Aubrey, Nova, Kinsley, Braelynn, Julie, Jade, Bow, Stiles, KJ, Christopher, and Duane (and two more on the way).

Snookie is also survived by a sister, Nancy (Roger) Kabe of Arizona; Gary (Pat) Book of Garner, IA; Lanne (Pat) Book of Klemme, IA; brother-in-law, Rickie Brock of Leland, IA as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Snookie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou; grandson, Michael Brooks; sisters Karen Brock and Pat Brighton as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
