(Note - the following obituary had several errors, which I've corrected, namely his father's and daughter's name. It does not list all of the surviving children, and he was not a brother to "Uncle Wiley", but instead a nephew.)

"Died in Rayville"
Preston Mayes died at his late home in Rayville on Tuesday morning at an early hour at the advanced age of 88 years.
The deceased was born and raised near where he breathed his last. He was a son of the late Sherrod Mayes and a brother of "Uncle Wiley" Mayes, near Knoxville. His first wife was Mary moss, and to this union were born three children, James, Dora, and Loretta.
The first wife died a few years later and he then married Margaret Sloan of Rayville. He moved to Rayville about 30 years ago and lived there up to the time of his death. Two sons, Austin and John, survive.
After funeral services today, burial will take place in the family burying ground 3 miles west of Knoxville.
