Mr. Tommie Lee Ellis, Jr., affectionally know as "Buddy" was born on November 5, 1942 in West, Mississippi to the late Bessie and Tommie Lee Ellis, Sr. He was the sixth child of eight children.

Tommie confessed his love and dedicated his life to Christ at a tender age by joining the Belmount Missionary Baptist Church. Dedicated and faithful, he served as a musician and deacon until his health decline.

Tommie also displayed his love for Christ through music. He was an avid guitar player. He often talked about how as a kid he wanted to be a Rockstar. At the age of 15, "Buddy" felt he somewhat fulfilled that dream by becoming a part of "The Mighty Soul Travelers Gospel Quartet Group. He was a vocalist, lead guitar player and served as the Assistant Manager for over 50 years.

Tommie received his education from Durant Attendance Center. He worked for Grenada Farms and Luvel Dairy as a dairy machine operator and truck driver for many years. He retired from Luvel Dairy in 2007.

Tommie was united in holy matrimony to Earnestine Sanders on March 6, 1965. With this union, four (4) children were born; Sandra, Roy, Beverly, and the fourth child, Monica Latrice, who preceded him in death.

"Buddy" was a lover of life. He had a smile that would light up any room. He liked to laugh and tell jokes. For everyone who knew him, they would tell you that he was a "Shaaarp" dresser. He often bragged about his attire. When complimented instead of saying thank you, he would say things like, "I know I'm sharp" or "I'm a bad man!" LOL. He was also keen on "telling it like it is". He loved sports and music. He was the ideal family man. Tommie's greatest joy was spending time with family. It was important for him to be active in his children's, grandchildren's, niece's and nephew's lives. He rarely missed any of their events.

Tommie's health began to decline in April 2017. On Monday, September 11, 2017, Tommie transitioned to be with the Lord. He slept away peacefully, surrounded by family.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his loving and devoted wife, Earnestine Ellis: Two (2) daughters, Sandra Ellis-Swain (David), Beverly Ellis; One (1) son, Roy Ellis all of Jackson, MS; One (1) grandson, Elliot Culp; Two (2) granddaughters, Monica Ellis, Ridgeland, MS and Amber Ellis, Jackson, MS; One (1) brother, Leroy (Josie) Ellis, Three (3) Brothers-in-law, J.W. Bruce, Waterloo, Iowa, Joseph (Joyce) Sanders, Durant, MS and Lucious (Shelia) Patterson, Kosciusko, MS; Three (3) Sisters-in-law, Mary Patterson, Louise Sanders both of Durant, MS, and Peggy Ellis, Kosciusko, MS. A special niece/sister, Ida Dandridge, Rockford, Illinois. A special friend, Calvin Anderson of Durant, MS and a host of God children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
