Hosea Stevens James, 57 years old, died suddenly at his home Wednesday evening, April 3rd.

Mr. James was born in Charlotte, Maine, July 9th, 1889, the son of the late Margaret and Horatio James. He attended the local school and was a graduate of Hawley Engineering School in Boston, Mass. He was employed by the General Electric Company at Lynn, Mass., from 1911 to 1913, and with the Pennsylvania Water and Power Co. from 1913 to 1916.

In 1916, he was married to Harriett Curtis of Dennysville, Maine. Mrs. James died in 1919.

Mr. James entered the employment of the St. Croix Paper Co., at Kellyland, Maine, on May 31, 1916, and was married to Lila B. Brown, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brown of Woodland, on January 1, 1921. To them two children were born, Mrs. Irene Shepard of Orono, Maine, and Miss Elizabeth James of Boston, Mass.

On April 9, 1928, Mr. and Mrs. James moved to Woodland, where he became Electrical Foreman, and on Nov. 9, 1936, he was made Chief Electrician.

Mr. James, although a quiet and unassuming person, was a lover of outdoor life and a favorite among sportsmen. He was a devoted husband and father, and his death brings sorrow to his many associates and friends.

He was a member of the several Masonic bodies of the St. Croix Valley: Lewy's Island Lodge of Princeton, St. Croix Chapter, St. Croix Council, Hugh de Payens Commandery of Knights Templar, all of Calais, and Anah Temple Order of the Mystic Shrine of Bangor. He was a member of Frontier Lodge, No. 111, I.O.O.F., serving as Treasurer for several years. He was also an active member of the Calais Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, one sister, Mrs. Stillman Steeves of Calais, two grandchildren, Carol Elizabeth and Merrill James Shepard of Orono, Maine, two nieces, Mrs. Elliott Miles of Woodland, and Mrs. Charles Henry of Milltown, N. B., and one nephew, Alonzo Reed of Boston, Mass.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Woodland on Saturday afternoon, April 6th, the Rev. C. D. Wentworth of Orono, (former pastor of Woodland) officiating, assisted by the Rev. Willard Conklin of Woodland. Music for the service was played by Miss Mary Jane Everett. Bearers were Herbert Lydic, Philip Bryant, Vernon Morrison, Thomas McLeod, Frank Fountain, and William Warr. Interment was in the family lot at Calais.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rice of Gilman, Vermont, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brown of Lincolnville Beach, Maine, Mrs. Alan Blanchard of Schenectady, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. Roland Findlay of Lubec, Maine, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Alwood Brown of Perry, Maine, Mr. Leonard Brown of Gilman, Vermont, Mr. Clement Brown of Lubec, Mr. Wellington Irvin of Milltown, Maine, Mr. Raymond Brown of Madawaska, Maine, Mr. George Libby of Boston, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shepard of Orono, Maine, and Miss Elizabeth James of Boston, Mass.

The many floral tributes were silent testimonies of the high esteem in which Mr. James was held.
