Dale honorably served his country as a WWII Vet with Merchant Marines, retiring in 1947. In 1958, he started installing radios in cars and was promoted to Chief Microwave Engineer at Indiana State Police. He enjoyed and was the president of the Greenwood Amateur Radio Club, W9EIX, being his call letters. Dale retired from the State Police in February of 1993 with an office across from Superintendent. He was also a member of the Society of Indiana Pioneers. Dale's uncle, Garner Woods, was the Chief of Police in Greenwood for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Omie Armes; brother, Johnny Robert Armes.
Dale is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Josephine Armes; sons, John D. Armes and Lex A. Armes; daughter-in-law, Chris Armes; grandchildren, Stephanie, Rachel and Kristen and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
