John Talton Madison, DDS, age 81, died Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Born in Thomasville, NC, on October 8, 1935, he was a son of the late Tyre Glenn Madison, Sr. and Dora Ellen Pearson Madison. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers T. G. Madison, Jr. and Charles Madison.

He graduated from UNC School of Dentistry where he served on the Student Dental Association and was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity. He served on the Brunswick County Board of Education and the Brunswick County Board of Health. He was a co-founder of Brierwood and Bricklanding Golf Courses. He was Past Master of Shallotte Masonic Lodge #727 AF&AM and a member of the Sudan Shrine Temple. He was a member of Shallotte Presbyterian Church and a member of the Building Committee.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Clemmons Madison; sons, The Reverend Tal Madison (Julie), Wilmington, NC, Tim Madison, Shallotte, NC, and Jeff Clemmons (Teresa) Supply, NC; daughters, Terri Durham, Shallotte, NC, and Teresa Smith, Georgia; sisters, Ruth Conner, Cary, NC and Barbara Morgan, Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Madison Stewart, Ragan Laughlin, Carson Durham, V, Veronica Madison, Ethan Madison, Monica Clemmons, Cassidy Clemmons, Tara King, Brittany Galloway, Zackery King, Jacob King, Kelsey Smith, and Chloe Smith; great grandchildren, Charlotte Stewart, Annabelle Powers, Brianna Powers, Trenton Galloway, and Mason Galloway.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 24, 2017 in Shallotte Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Church. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites. Dr. Madison’s nephews will serve as Casket Bearers.
