Thomas Ward Gay

New Paltz - Thomas Ward Gay, age 90, of New Paltz died Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at home, of a broken heart after the loss of his wife, Dorothy Yarnall Gay, who predeceased him on May 22, 2017.
Mr. Gay was born November 17, 1926 in Phoenixville, PA. He was the son of the late Thomas W. and the late Lydia (Brower) Gay.
Thomas served in the Army and the Reserved Officers Training Corp. from 1944 through 1954. His hobbies included photography, big band music, and he was an avid pool player and Yankee fan. He was the Senior Deacon, Elder and Senior Elder at Church and participated in Stone House Day- now known as Heritage Day.
He was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY and was a professor in the Engineering Departments at SUNY New Paltz.
Tom is survived by one daughter: Kathryn & husband, Kenneth Knutsen and one son: Thomas Irwin & wife, Erika Gay of Hurley, NY; Grandchildren, Alyssa and Nicole Vacca, Kaylea Countryman and Melanie Garcia; and great-grandchildren, Malina, Isaiah and Julian Garcia.
Thomas was predeceased by his sister: Marjorie Gay and brother, Richard Gay.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 10 am to 11:30am at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. The funeral will begin at 11:30am, with Rev. Mark Mast officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Ulster County Veteran's Cemetery, 81 Plains Road, New Paltz, NY 12561.
