Norma graduated high school in May 1941 and went to nursing school at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. She became a licensed RN in March 1947 and returned to Kansas where she began her nursing career. Over the subsequent 35+ years, Norma worked in some interesting locations: an Indian reservation in Colorado, an Air Force Base in Japan during the Korean War, and at Fort Carson. Her last place of employment was working for the FMAC and a registered nurse. Fitzsimmons Army Hospital is now the University of Colorado.

Norma met her late husband Arvel at Fort Carson where he was stationed in the military. They were married through a civil service at the courthouse in Raton, New Mexico on May 22, 1954. Together they had 3 sons and lived in Colorado Springs, El Paso (TX), Denver, Cheyenne (WY) and Aurora.

Norma was very independent, loved music and enjoyed singing, liked tending her vegetable garden, and loved her animal friends. Norma loved people and touched many lives. Her bright blue eyes, inquisitive nature and caring personality engaged people and endeared them to her. She loved Jesus and had many church friends.

Her special friends and neighbors Jim and Vicki Gallegos are greatly appreciated for helping her in so many ways - thank you. A special thanks to the caregivers, staff and residents at the Village of Lowry. Norma shared the last 5 years of her life with you and you meant much to her.

Norma is survived by her sons James (Sarah), Jack (Martine Bennett), John (Karen), five grandchildren,Janel (Matt), Jacob (Kristen), Bailey (Kyle Wenner), Matthew, Mark, and two great grandchildren Daniel and Eleanor "Ellie".

Norma's ashes will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, September 22nd at 2pm staging area "A" with a celebration of her life for family and friends immediately following the service.
