Born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Charles Shields and Bertha (Keough) Shields.
After Paul graduated high school he served in WWII, employed at Verizon for almost 30 years before retiring, served and retired from the National Guard as a Lt. Col. He was a dedicated member of the Shamrock Society of North Providence, the Elks, among other organizations. He volunteered his time at the Fain Building, at the Miriam Hospital, in the Oncology Dept. among other places before he became ill.
He was the father of Coleen M. Shields, Paul B. Shields, and his wife Robyn, the late Tracy A. Shields and G. Patrick Shields, all of Providence. He was the brother of the late Charles Shields, the late Robert Shields, the late Margaret Shields (Herskie) and the late Patricia Shields (Gallagher). He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
His visitation will begin at 9:00 am on Monday, September 25 from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will be private. For directions and online condolences please visit www.boyleandsonfuneralhome.com
