He married Willempje Warnaers before 1657.

He sailed from Holland to New Amsterdam on 24 Mar 1662, aboard the ship De Trouw, with his brother Willem, who had made a return voyage to Holland and was now returning to New Netherlands. With Harmen was his wife and two children, ages five and three years.
