Herbert Robert Horn was born on April 30, 1927 in the Town of Warner, rural Greenwood, to Gustave and Anna (Woepse) Horn. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Greenwood area, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1945. He took over the operation of the family farm right after completing high school. During the winter months, he worked for Clayton Braun, doing logging. Herbert was united in marriage to Lila A. Richmond on June 30, 1951 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, rural Greenwood. Together, they farmed and raised their children in the Town of Warner. He was a lifelong farmer, living his entire life on the farm until entering the nursing home in November 2016.
He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, served on the Board of Directors for Greenwood Milk Products for many years, and was a member of the Black River Bowman's Club.
Herbert had many interests, but especially enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. His most treasured time was that spent with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his children: Bruce of Cincinnati, OH; Luann (Chris) Baker of Greenwood, Allen (Laura) of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren: Eric (Christa) Baker, Ryan (Liz) Baker, Jennifer Baker, Madeline Horn, Logan Horn, Grace Horn and Nadia Horn; two great grandsons: Ransom and Samuel Baker; one sister-in-law: Betty Horn of Greenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lila, on April 2, 2009; one brother, Norman; and one sister, Almira Stanke.
