Clifford Loy Green was born on May 10, 1924 in Julian, Nebraska. He was the first-born son of Loy and Evelyn (Beckman) Green. After the birth of a second child, the family moved to Montana where the family had a homestead near Loesch on Big Pumpkin Creek in Powder River County. Six more children joined the family in Montana. Clifford attended Loesch School, Powder River High School, and Custer County High School, where he graduated in 1943. In 1947, the family purchased the Horkan ranch on Little Pumpkin Creek. Clifford lived there for most of his life, working with his father and brothers.

As a youth, Clifford accepted Christ as his Savior. On December 2, 1951, he married Lyla Roth, the teacher at the Loesch School. They resided on the Green Ranch and raised a family of 3 girls. Clifford was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was active in his community. He enjoyed music and would often be heard playing his fiddle. He loved farming and was a good carpenter. When the girls were in high school, they commuted from the ranch to their house in Miles City.

In retirement, Clifford and Lyla moved to Miles City. They loved traveling, visiting family and friends in Washington, Alaska, Georgia, Virginia, and Hawaii. Clifford was on the board of the Range Riders and part of the Southeast Montana Fiddlers. This association brought him many friends and great pleasure. He and Lyla became snow-birds, spending winters in Yuma, Arizona. There he made even more friends and enjoyed jamming with other musicians.

In 2005, Lyla suffered a stroke and Clifford attended to her daily at Holy Rosary Extended Care. After several health problems, Clifford also moved there in 2011. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and aids that cared for him until the end. He passed away on Sept. 19, 2017 with his wife and other loving family members at his side.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Harold, Gary, and Charles (Sonny), and his sister Marion; two children, Cal in 1952 and Michele in 1989; and a great-grandson, Jason Lee Brooks

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lyla; two daughters, Patti (Bill) Ireland of Soldotna, Alaska and Jackie Leonis of Gainesville, Florida; seven grandchildren, Chris (Jessica) Russell of Alaska, Ginni (Joel) DeLon of Alaska, Jason (Heather) Brooks of Virginia, Leah Brooks of Billings, Jamie Brooks of Virginia, Cari (Albert) May of Louisiana, and Autumn Brooks of Florida; and many great-grandchildren.
