ROGER “LIL BRO” BLACK JR., 69, passed this life suddenly on Monday morning at his home.

Mr. Black was born on Sunday, October 12, 1947 to the late Roger and Elizabeth (Pettigree) Black Sr., in Jasper, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield the past 64 years. Roger was a member of the Mansfield Senior High School graduating class of 1965.

After high school “Lil Bro” as he was affectionately called attended college for a short period, and later attended a trade school in Indiana for skilled trades specializing in Computerized Numerical Control (CNC). His knowledge in this area allowed him to use his skill at several companies such as Flexible for 15 years until it closed, with Rabel Manufacturing being is last place of employment.

He served as a delegate and member of the United Steelworkers Union Local of Loudonville and a member of the American Legion Post #676. Lil Bro was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends.

Roger is survived by his wife, Betty Crosby Black; children: Denise (Robert) Thompson, Celeste Black, Jeffrey (Dawn) Black, Brian See; step-children: Fred Crosby, Demetrius Coleman and Joshua (Mariah) Jefferson; 11 grandchildren including Jamaal Coleman (whom he raised); 11 great-grandchildren; sisters: Malinda and Diane Black; beloved aunt Mary Frances Hatfield; best friends (brothers): Ed Harris and Duane Hill; friend: Deborah Matthews and a host of cousins.

n addition to his parents Lil Bro was also preceded in death by sisters, Sandra Collier and Malinda’s infant twin, Brenda Kay Black; cousin Candace Taylor and granddaughter Destiny Crosby.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, in the chapel of Williams Funeral Services, 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Jones of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield officiating. Friends may call at the chapel beginning at 8:30 a.m. till the time of service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery

The family will also receive friends at their home, 2162 Lakewood Drive daily from 4 to 7 p.m. till the day of service.
