s/o Lewis and Alice (Gray) Carr; h/o the former Virginia Pearson.

He attended local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Canaan Memorial High School.

At 17 years old, he volunteered as a U.S. Marine following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. George proudly served his country for another 35 years in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Following his military service, George returned home and worked as a "Shovel Operator" for Leonard Gray. In 1950, he began working at the Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen, and he retired 29 years later as the yard foreman.

George was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 47 in Canaan, as well as a past district commander. He served a term as a Canaan selectman, and was a member of the Canaan Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia (Pearson) Carr of Averill; two sons, Pearson Carr of Weirsdale, FL; and Michael Carr of Hyde Park, VT; two daughters, Georgiana Carr of Averill and Gennette Carr Burke of Fairfax, VT; many grandchildren; and 3 gr-grandchildren.

George is predeceased by four of his children, John, Stanley, Edward Carr, and Jennifer Earls. Also his sister, Marion Lanfest, half-brother Wilfred Gray.
