Big Stone Gap, VA, Benjamin Harrison Wade, age 77, of Big Stone Gap, VA, passed away on September 17, 2017 at Heritage Hall in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was of the Baptist Faith and a 50 year member of the Lee County Farm Bureau.

Born in Lee Co., VA to James H. and Elizabeth Young Wade on March 18, 1940, he grew up with a love of the land and farming, for which everything he lovingly touched grew to its fullest beauty. “ It isn’t the farm that made the farmer, it’s the love, hard work and character.”(Author unknown)

Ben was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ann Delph Wade, his parents, James H. and Elizabeth Young Wade; four brothers: James Wade, Jr., Hubert Wade, Paul Wade, and Charles K. Wade; three sisters: Iva Suggett, Ruth Tignor, and Frances Sue Wade, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Surviving are his daughter, Lois Wade Porter and husband Brian of Wise, VA, his son, Mark Wade of Big Stone Gap, VA; granddaughter and the light of his life, Kari Dawn Wade of Big Stone Gap, VA; two brothers, Danny Wade and wife, Anita of Big Stone Gap, and Carl Eugene Wade of Lee County, VA: three sisters: Mary Frye and husband Robert of Leesburg, VA, Wavie Grimes of Leesburg, VA, and Phyllis Colvard of Norton, VA.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm with Pastor Donnie Pickett officiating.

Graveside services will be held September 21st, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA.
