Ernest Walter Brewer, Or Ernie as he was affectionately called, was born on November 29th, 1931, in Porcupine, South Dakota, the son of Robert and Bessie (Janis) Brewer. He was raised in a family of ten boys and four girls, and was very proud of his Ogallala Sioux heritage. He graduated from Holy Rosary Mission School in Pine ridge, SD. It was then he decided to move to the Dallas area and attend barbering college. It was while he was living in Dallas he met the lady that remained his sweetheart and best friend for over 58 years, Erma Jean Neugin. They were married in Dallas and began a family together in 1960, raising two boys and one girl, John, Adam and Phoebe. Ernie worked as a barber and loved his work. The family eventually relocated to the Tahlequah area about 200, and here Ernie and his wife Erma both began working for the BIA, Ernie as the mail clerk and Erma in the Office of Equal Opportunity. Their daughter Phoebe passed in 1976 at the age of 13. Ernie missed her so, but continued with his many hobbies in life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family meant everything to him. At home, he was always outdoors, he raised beautiful vegetables, peaches, flowers and sunflower beds. He liked to curl up with a good book and especially westerns. When the kids were around, he could play poker with the best of them. He possessed a great sense of humor and could make you laugh, and wasn't past doing a little teasing from time to time. Ernie enjoyed listening to music with Erma, and they never missed a chance to hear the old time gospel hymns and the old country western favorites. Ernie was a Christian by faith and was raised a Roman Catholic. His health began to fail him and he passed from this life on Monday, September 18th, 2017 at his home in Tahlequah.
