She was born June 12, 1930, in Herne, Germany, to Johannes and Wilhelmina Hummels. She married Lawrence Adkins on December 29, 1956, and emigrated from Germany to Crescent, Iowa, in 1957. She became a naturalized American citizen in 1970. She was very proud of her American citizenship. She loved painting and tending her prolific and beautiful flower gardens. For many years, she enjoyed her dogs (German shepherds, Afghan hounds, Skye terriers, Briard), which included several champion show dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ingeborg Hummels; and brother-in-law, Kurt Langenhan.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; daughter, Cordula Fisher (Alan); son, George (Susan), of Arlington, Va.; stepdaughters, Rosemarie Adkins and Nicole Taylor (Jeff), of Malvern, Iowa; sister, Camilla Langenhan, of Regensburg, Germany; brother, Hans Hummels (Ursula), of Gainesville, Fla.; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Graveside memorial service will be held for the family.
