The Rev. Dr. Daniel Grant Loomis of El Dorado passed away Thursday, Sept 14th at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Pastor Dan will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 23rd in the sanctuary of First Presbyt-erian Church, 300 E Main St, El Dorado. The service will be officiated by Mike Dumas and followed by a reception in the fellowship hall of the church.

Daniel Grant Loomis was born January 13, 1952 in Enid, Oklahoma to parents Robert Grant Loomis and Ruby Keesee Loomis. Daniel grew up in Cleo Springs, Oklahoma and graduated from Aline-Cleo High School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central State University, Edmond, OK in 1974; A Masters of Environmental Science, University of Oklahoma in 1978; a Masters of Divinity, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1996; and a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching, McCormick Seminary in 2002. Daniel was working as Project Manager for Poe & Associates Consulting Engineers in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when God called him to the ministry. After attending Seminary Daniel was ordained in the Presbyterian Church USA on June 16, 1996. He served as Pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, Pine Bluff, AR from 1996 until 2001. On Sept 10, 2001 Dan became Pastor, Head of Staff for the First Presbyterian Church El Dorado. He served in that position until July of 2013 when a devastating accident made it impossible for Dan to preach. He continued to remain active in First Presbyterian as Pastor Emeritus until his death.

Daniel loved to read and was particularly interested in history, theology, science, and science fiction. He loved writing sermons and teaching Bible studies, but his real joy came from the relationships he formed with his parishioners. In his practice of pastoral care Dan tried to do as Jesus commanded, that we love one another as He loves us. Daniel loved learning new things so his personal interests changed over the years. Playing the guitar, sailing & navigating by the stars, skiing, bicycle riding, writing computer programs and networking computers, nature photography and listening to music, particularly Mozart. He also loved taking photos of Church activities and candid shots of his grandchildren. His six grandchildren were the light of his life. Whether they called him “Grandpa Dan” or “Pop Pops” they always brightened his day.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Robert Grant Loomis; Mother, Ruby Keesee Loomis; and brothers Robert “Bruce” Loomis and Mark Loomis.

Daniel is survived by his wife Carol Terry, sons Patrick Sean Loomis & wife Brandy (Grove, Oklahoma) and Brian Terry Loomis & wife Holly (Norman, Oklahoma), grandchildren Casey Michael Loomis (Clarksville, Tennessee), Katherine Kay “Katie” Loomis (Grove, Oklahoma), Derek Alexander Loomis (Grove) & Kameron Kelly Loomis (Grove), and twins, Katelyn Parker Loomis and Taylor Rebecca Loomis (Norman, Ok), great grandchildren Bentley Chase Loomis and LynnLeigh Loomis(Grove), brothers Steve & wife Billie Loomis (Enid, Oklahoma) and Dwight & wife Tena Loomis (Enid), sisters Pat Warfield (Enid) and Jeannie Fielder & husband Danny (Ames, Oklahoma).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Haiti Education Foundation, P.O. Box 10775, El Dorado AR 71730 or First Presbyterian Church, 300 E Main St, El Dorado AR 71730.
