Joann was born in Istanbul (Constantinople), Turkey in 1927. She met her husband Kenneth, who was working on a construction project there, and they were subsequently married in 1958. Kenneth’s work took them to Tunisia and then to Iran where Cathy and Elizabeth were born. They moved to Seattle in 1962 to be close to Kenneth’s siblings who lived in the Pacific Northwest. Kenneth, Joann and their family then settled in Seattle (where Barbara was born) and made the Church of the Assumption their home.

Joann was involved with both the Philoptochos and the Daughters of Penelope. She attended Liturgy frequently and, with time, developed a special relationship with the Panagia who was forever special in her life. As an expression of her love she cared for others and became known as the Greek super caregiver. It was this gift that she had of caring for the elderly that touched the heart of those families who were fortunate enough to have Joann walk beside them in their time of need.

Joann was also known for the depth of her faith, always giving thanks, and looked forward with joyful anticipation to prayer and the reception of the Eucharist.

Joann is survived by her daughters Katherine (Parmesh) Chetty, Barbara Janjic and her grandchildren; Christopher, Anastasia and Philip, and family friends Martha Lorenzen and Jim Holden. She is preceded in passing by her husband Kenneth and daughter Elizabeth.
