Obituary for Edward James Maloney

Edward James Maloney, age 89 of McKeesport, died September 9, 2017 at UPMC McKeesport. Born November 26, 1927 in Homestead, he was the son of the late Edward James and May (Sibley) Maloney, and loving husband of Lois Jean (Gilda) Maloney for 59 years. Edward honorably served in the US Army 88th Infantry Division during WWII. Following his military service, he worked for Firth Sterling Mill in McKeesport and later went to work for the City of McKeesport for their maintenance department. Ed was also a talented painter, devoting his time to painting houses and working on roofing jobs. He was a member of the AMVETS and American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed drawing and sketching, however his biggest passion was spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Tony) Sherlock-Fonzi of McKeesport; grandchildren, Patrick (Laura) Sherlock, Crystal Sherlock, Anthony Fonzi and Darius Fonzi; great-grandchildren, Tyson and Emmit Sherlock; brother, William Maloney; brothers-in-law, Gene Dandrea and Lavino Dandrea; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Maloney; sister, May Maloney; and nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. with a Blessing Service at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with continued visitation until 7 p.m. Deacon Stephen C.
