Rita Y. Caldwell, 76, of Kendallville died Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 6:01 p.m. in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville.

She was born October 10, 1940 in Garrett to Chester D. and Ruth M. (Ober) Lung.

Rita received her master’s degree in library science and worked as a librarian for the public school system for 34 years.

She was on the board of directors and was a former officer for the Kendallville Day Care Center.

Surviving is a daughter, Kristina (Ken) Wisner of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Dustin (Shantel Gates) Woods, Alisha (Adam Powers) Woods, Tiffany (Noel) Valle, Austin Woods, and Mackennzie Wisner; two step-grandchildren, Jonathon (Heather) Wisner and Matthew (Kayla Bowers) Wisner; and twelve great-grandchildren, Riley, Landon, Adrian, Caden, Serenity, Bryson, Tayton, Carson, Kayidence, Peyton, Sebastian, and Ellie Jo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren, 2939 Co Rd 15, Auburn with Pastor Duane Grady officiating.

Burial will be in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett.

Calling is Wednesday, September 20, 2017, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to the Kendallville Day Care Center.
