Phyllis McGuire, 90, Anderson, passed away Sept. 10, 2017. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Fred McGuire; daughter, Johnella (Bob) Mathley; four granddaughters, Amanda Strauser, Maggie McGuire, Caitlin McGuire and Mallory (Danny) Stanley; and five great-grandchildren, Logan, Isabella, Isaiah, Landen and Elijah.
Phyllis was a loving mother who always kept her children engaged in fun and beneficial activities as they were growing up. She created a happy home and was the best mom. Her attitude of laughter at life's ups and downs was a substantial learning experience of getting through the light and dark times of life.
When she was young, she traveled extensively with her parents, Fredrick and Thelma Schneider, on trains all over the western states her father worked for Penn Central railroad and they rode the rails for free.
As a 16-year-old at Anderson High School that summer, she began her career with Indiana Bell Telephone Company at Camp Attebury during World War II. She continued working there till the end of the war and after graduation she went to work full time as a switchboard operator for 37 years.
Phyllis's favorite activities included lounging at the pool at Edgewood Country Club and spending her winters in Florida after retiring. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo and feeding the penny slots at the casino in Anderson. She was a dog lover and great friend to everyone she came in contact with.
