Ava Maria Howe, 68, of York, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster with her loving family by her side. She was born October 23, 1948 in Rutherfordton, NC, daughter of the late A.D. and Mary Watson Hamrick.
Ava spent her life playing the organ in churches and was involved in church music since she was 12 years old. She considered it an honor and privilege to play piano and organ at Shiloh Baptist Church, Alexander Baptist Church, Shaw Air Force Base Chapel, First Baptist of York, Eastview Baptist and York ARP Church. She was a faithful member of York ARP Church. In addition to playing the piano and organ, she taught piano lessons, kindergarten and was a licensed Real Estate Broker and property manager. Most important to her was God, her family and she will be dearly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, Larry S. Howe; daughters, Shannon H. Echols and husband, Brian of Rock Hill and Leah H. Corde of Columbia; grandchildren, Jacob Costner, Hannah Corde and Grant Corde; and sisters, Susie Jones and husband, Gresham of Morganton, NC and Amy Morton and husband, Daryl of Macon, GA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill. A Funeral Service will be held at York ARP Church with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in York and those times will be announced when arrangements have been finalized.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ava’s memory to York ARP Church, 70 N. Congress Street, York, SC 29745.
