PORTSMOUTH - Carrie R. "Mickey" Freeman, 88, of the 400 block of Truman Circle, died Aug. 19, 2007, in Deep Creek Manor, Chesapeake. Born in Southampton County, Virginia, she was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she was a member of the senior choir and former president. She was also a former member of Daughters of Berkley Social & Savings Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Freeman.

Survivors include two daughters, Fannie Jones of Norfolk and Gwentilyn Oliver (George) of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Thomas Russell (Jessie) of Portsmouth and Samuel Russell of Franklin; two sisters, Evangeline Sutton (Shade) of Baltimore and Lizzie Ford of Norfolk; a brother, Richard Ford (Litre Mae) of Chesapeake; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by Bishop James M. Whitaker and the Rev. Mark M. Whitaker. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Viewing in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will be at the home of her son, 2119 Des Moines Ave., Portsmouth, and will assemble there for the procession to the church.
