John J. Taylor Dead.

Friends and relatives of John J. Taylor, who has been making his home in Longmont, Colo., the last few years, were greatly surprised to hear of his death, which occurred last Thursday evening at six o'clock. His daughter, Mrs. Tracy Ball, received a telegram of his death last Thursday and she left Friday for Colorado.

The deceased was 71 years of age and was one of the first to settle in this vicinity in the early seventies. He was a continuous resident here until a few years ago, when he went to Colorado to make his home with his daughter. Mr.Taylor was identified with the Foosland community from the time it was first settled. For several years he was a director of the local school, and it was largely through the efforts of Mr. Taylor, R.G. Ball, and E.G. Larkin that we have the present school facilities. He was a good upright citizen and always worked for the good of the community.

His wife died several years ago, and all who survive him in this vicinity are one daughter, Mrs. Tracy Ball, a son, George Taylor, and a brother, Charles Taylor. George left for Longmont Friday to be present at the funeral. Interment was made in the cemetery in Longmont

Note about burial:
Given his obituary, I had thought that he would be buried in the Longmont Mt. View Cemetery. I put in a request for a picture of his cemetery marker and the very kind B.J. Nelson sent me the following reply

"The Longmont Genealogy Society got a list from Mt. View Cemetery of all the people buried in the cemetery and posted the memorials for them. Actually they of all the plot owners and then listed them even if they hadn't died. The cemetery had a card index that showed ownership and everyone buried in the plots of each owner. The society updated about five years later. Since that time Find A Grave volunteers have listed any new interments. J.J. died in 1922 so he would have been first index the society did. I did call the cemetery to be sure that they didn't have a John, John James or J.J. Taylor. They didn't have record of and interment for him. I checked all the other cemeteries in the immediate area Hygiene, Niwot, Ryssby and even Pleasant View and found no record of him. There is no listing for the anyone in the family being buried at Mt. View. I will put him on my library list. Unfortunately I have a long list and the online Longmont Ledger (the newspaper when he died) index has been taken down. So right now I can only tell you for sure that he is not where you think is."
