Albert A. Schrempf, Jr., age 78, of Amesbury, died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, June 5, 2016, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was the loving husband of Esther (Cox) Kezer Schrempf. Born in Newburyport, March 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Albert A. and Alma Schrempf and was a graduate of Essex Agricultural School. With his passion of the outdoors and horticultural knowledge, he started his own business, Al's Landscaping in Newburyport. He developed quite the green thumb and took great pleasure in his work. He spent much of his time planting beautiful flower beds and his vegetable garden.
Al took great pride in maintaining all the family cemetery lots of those he dearly loved who went before him. He also enjoyed planting flowers at the Amesbury and Portsmouth Seventh Day Adventist Church. He loved traveling, all the New England sports team, summers in Ogunquit, Maine, afternoons at the beach, and fresh tomatoes. Al was especially fond of all of his animals -- dogs, cats, bunnies and birds. His wife and family were his greatest loves and he had a special bond with each and every one of them. His sense of humor and his quick wit were by far his best attribute and he was known for making everyone laugh. He will be forever missed. Al proudly served with the Army National Guard, was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Amesbury, a leader of the Yankee Bells, and was also a good friend of Bill W. In addition to his wife, Esther, he is survived by two sons, Albert Kezer, III of Newburyport and David Schrempf of Amesbury; three daughters, Sharon Kezer Gauvin and husband, Michael of Salisbury; Robin McMann and Frank of Newbury, and Beth Schrempf of Salisbury; two sons-in-law, Gordon Breidenbach of Kennebunk, Maine, and Denny Dow of Rochester, N.H.; two sisters, Joy Schrempf Locher and husband, Ken of Maine and Sharon and husband, Jim of Newburyport; 11 grandchildren, Timothy, Shawn and Matthew Dow, Cally Notargiacomo, Blake and Hannah Breidenbach, Elizabeth and Melissa Brocher, and Paula, Ann and Stephen Schrempf; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Grace, Cashman, Cameron, Jessica Page and Michael; along with several generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two daughters, Mary Kezer Breidenbach and Karen Dow; his son, Alan Schrempf; and his granddaughter, Shana Kezer. Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Wednesday, June 8, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the 7th Day Adventist Church, 171 Main Street, Amesbury, followed by interment in Belleville Cemetery, Newburyport.
