Leland “Lee” Tohoru Nakamura, 91, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. His family held a private burial and memorial services.
Lee was born September 30, 1925 to Kaoru and Dorothy Nakamura in Petaluma, Calif. He was the oldest of five children. He lived in several parts of California before moving to Thompson Falls.
In his early years, Lee would help his family run their chicken farm. In the Spring of 1942, his family was forced to relocate to Camp Amache in Colorado. During his family’s internment, Lee entered the U.S. Army where he became a Private, First Class. After serving his country, he graduated from the University of California at Berkley with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Upon earning his degree, Lee’s career with Hughes Aircraft Company lasted over thirty years. It was at Hughes Aircraft Company where he met his loving wife Alice.
Throughout his adult life, he was an avid golfer. If he wasn’t on the golf course, he could be found watching golf in front of his TV.
Lee will join his wife Alice Ashley Nakamura who passed away in April 2008. He leaves his daughter, Kathy and her husband Bill of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; his daughter, Betty and her husband Steve of Marana, Ariz.; his son, Dan from California; his son, David and his wife Denise of Beaverton, Ore.; his daughter, Sheila of Dallas, Texas; his son, Kenichi of Portland, Ore.; his brother John and his wife Beverly of Sacramento, Calif.; his seven grandchildren and many wonderful close frien
