Billy Ray Padgett, 75, of Georgia Mountain died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Padgett was a United States Army veteran who retired from NASA. He was a member of Union Grove First Baptist Church, enjoyed farming, owning and operating his farm on Georgia Mountain.

He had a passion for birds and liked to travel, especially to the mountains in Gatlinburg, Tenn. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife: Patricia Ryan Padgett; son: Jason Padgett; daughters: Gina Cannon, Lindsey Champion, Katy Norton and Ruth Page; honorary brother: Dean Deerman; sisters: Sharon Miller, Judy Frank, Dana Lands, Carol French, Vickie Weatherman and Joy Joiner; and grandchildren: Brandon Jones, Tristan Cannon, Dylan Padgett, Harry Norton, Caroline Norton, Gabe Norton, Katelynn Page and Hannah Champion.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Guntersville Memorial Chapel, with Greg Narrell officiating. Burial was in Marshall Memory Gardens, with Guntersville Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Nathan Matthews, Jerry Dyson, Greg French, Colby Weatherman, Stephen Weatherman, Matt Matthews, Craig Lands and Cameron Mann.

Memorials may be made to Union Grove First Baptist Church’s building fund.
