Phillip Fiske was born August 6, 1802 in Rhode Island. He married Caroline Briggs in Providence on May 20, 1827. He was a machinist by trade. When the gold craze broke out in California, in 1849, he was an early argonaut. In 1851 he drowned in the Sacramento River and died.
