Actor. He was a very prolific character actor whose career spanned seven decades. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he attended the University of Kentucky and studied journalism and radio. He also acted on the stage while at Kentucky. After college, he pursued acting by going to California to study at the Pasadena Playhouse. After making his acting debut in 1954 on the television series "Inner Sanctum”, he would go on to appear in numerous television series during his career with such credits as "The Court of Last Resort", "Bat Masterston", "The Rifleman", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "The Untouchables", "Combat!", "Rawhide", "The Wild Wild West", "Gunsmoke", "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman", "Young Maverick", "Beyond the Groove", "Two and Half Men", "Big Love", and "Twin Peaks". He made his motion pictures debut in the 1956 film "Revolt at Fort Laramie" and would go on to appear in many films during his career with such credits as "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (1960), "How the West Was Won" (1962), "In the Heat of the Night" (1967), "Cool Hand Luke" (1967), "Kelly's Heroes" (1970), "Dillinger" (1973), "The Godfather Part II" (1974), "Alien" (1979), "The Rose" (1979), "Escape from New York" (1981), "Red Dawn" (1984), "Repo Man" (1984), "Paris, Texas" (1984), "Pretty in Pink" (1986), "The Last Temptation of Christ" (1988), "The Green Mile" (1999), and "The Avengers" (2012). He also had his own music band which performed at various Los Angeles, California nightclubs through the years. He passed away of natural causes.
