Vaughn R. Love, 75, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, September 15, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital.
Vaughn was born January 13, 1942 to the late Everett and Ferol Love in Brazil, IN.

He graduated from Brazil High School, where he was an All-State football player. The toughness he learned would later help carry him and his family through many health trials over the last 35 years. His family agrees that it was Vaughn’s quiet strength that showed his character. Vaughn was a sincere, caring, and if you knew him, funny man.

Vaughn was a proud graduate of Rose Hulman Institute of Technology with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Vaughn completed ROTC and served in the US Army from 1965-1967, as a First Lt.

He married Nancy Gottsche Love on January 26, 1964. Together they made their home in Columbus, IN, where Vaughn worked at Cummins Engine Company his entire 33 year career. He was active in the Breakfast Kiwanis for many years, where he served as a President, a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was involved with the Men’s Group and the Chancel Choir. Vaughn was a member of the Hoosier Antique & Classic Bicycle Club and restored his childhood Schwinn bike to original condition. He enjoyed antique cars and loved driving his 1931 Ford Model A.

After moving to Greenwood, IN he was a member at Smith Valley United Methodist Church and a part of the Choir. The move was all about being closer to his grandkids. He and his wife, Nancy, became grandparents to Megan and Erik Henderson, and Camden Love. They always brought smiles to his face.

Vaughn is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Love of Greenwood, IN, his daughter, Melissa (Bill) Henderson of Greenwood, his son Jeffrey (Christy) Love, of Cap-Haitien, Haiti, his 3 grandchildren, his brother, John (Joann) Love of Rock Island, IL, and sister-in-law Joan Love of Rock Island. Vaughn also had many special nieces and nephews. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and two brothers.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The service will be Thursday, September 21 at 11:00 am, with visitation starting at 10:00am all at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift in Vaughn’s name to Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, 5500 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47803 or Smith Valley United Methodist Church, 5293 Old Smith Valley Rd, Greenwood, IN 46143.
