KERN, William Robert "Bill", 86 was born April 21, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio to Ralph Robert and Agnes (Young) Kern. Bill passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. His family was at his bedside until he was ready to join his wife, Shirley Lou (Schroeder) Kern, son William Scott Kern and son Kevin Douglas Kern in blessed Heaven. Bill is survived by son and daughter-in-law Kerry Brian and Sue Ann (Spurgeon) Kern, sisters-in-law Mitzi (Schroeder) Palmer and Wilma Schroeder. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, David B. (Jill) Kern, Katie (Kern) Housel (Larry), Bradley A. (Jeanie) Kern, Kelly (Kern) Adler (Nick), Kristen (Kern) West (Michael) and Amber L. Kern. Bill also leaves 6 great-grandchildren and one arriving in May. Bill graduated from Randolph High School in 1949, was class president his junior and senior years. It was here that he met fellow classmate and Love of his life, Shirley. They were married 57 years until her death on December 7, 2010. Bill studied at Otterbein University before he started work for Frigidaire in 1951, completing his apprenticeship in Tool Designing in 1956. He established himself and became layout engineer for Frigidaire. After GM sold the Frigidaire Division, Bill stayed on as Plant Manager for GM Detroit Diesel Allison in Moraine, Ohio. He retired at 56 to be a devoted husband and father, but lived his life through his grandchildren. They meant the world to him. Bill was very active with Northmont Amateur Baseball League (NABL), Northmont Band Parents Association, the Boy Scouts and the Randolph Township Historical Society. Bill was a wonderful man and he fills our hearts with joyful memories. Please donate to the charity of your choice in memory of Bill. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME, 675 West Wenger Road, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be 10:00 am Wednesday, April 25, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.
