Seventy-nine years wasn't long enough to spend with Ruth, but we're blessed to have the time and memories we did have. Ruth passed peacefully away Wednesday September 13, 2017 at EIRMC surrounded by family.
She was born at home on May 24, 1938 to Moses Allen and Ester May Barney in Rexburg, Idaho. She was the tenth of eleven children. She grew up on a small family farm and loved spending time outside. She liked to feed the chickens and helped pick potatoes during harvest.
Ruth was the mother to five children from her first marriage; the role of mother was one she took great pride in. She later met the loved of her life, Marshall Orr, whom she married on November 27, 1986 in Rexburg, Idaho. When marrying Marshall she gained 4 more children, each of which she loved as much as her own. Ruth and Marshall were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 18, 1988.
She had many jobs throughout her life, her favorite was working in the Student Records Office as a Registrar. She eventually retired at the age of 70.
Ruth crocheted all of her life and many of her children and grandchildren have fond memories of her teaching them as well. You could also often find Ruth camping, reading books, and canning. But spending time with her family was the most important thing to her and brought her great joy. Ruth also held many church callings and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony was very dear to her and she leaves it behind as a reminder to her family of her love for the Savior and His gospel.
Ruth will be missed by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Marshall; children, Darrin (DeAnna) Robertson, Barbara (Monte) Pettingill, Beverly (Paul) Muir, Cliff (Megan) Robertson, Layne (Bonnie) Orr, Stephanie (Todd) Anselmi, D'Nette Orr, Greg Orr; a son-in-law, Steve Marler; siblings, Letha Dawson, Vera Yatsack, Wayne (Norlene) Barney, Dean Barney, June (Larry) Gould; 31 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and her daughter, Delana Marler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, at the Egin Bench Ward Chapel, with Bishop LaVar Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery.
