Ruby Garrison James, 87, of Morganton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. James was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Burke County, to the late Roy and Dorothy Ross Garrison.
Ruby was currently a member of Mulls Grove Baptist Church, and was formerly of Hopewell and Burkemont Baptist Churches and several churches in Elyria, Ohio and Lebanon, Ind. She served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, pianist and treasurer for various churches to which she belonged.
She loved playing and teaching piano. She was a member of Home Extension Club and Quilters Clubs. She was a Stanley Home products dealer for over 50 years.
Mrs. James was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Smith James; brother, Thurman Garrison; and sister, Rosa Lee Dockery.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m., at Mulls Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Bunton officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Friday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mulls Grove Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mulls Grove Baptist Church in Morganton.
