OSCEOLA - Larry D. Burris, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, at Golden Living Center in Mishawaka, where he had resided since becoming ill. He had lived all of his life in Osceola, Indiana. He graduated from Penn High School in 1964, and attended University of Tennesee Martin on a football scholarship. He retired as head of the Osceola Street Department shortly before his illness. He was very proud of the work that he did, and, never knew a stranger. All of his life he loved to put out his annual garden, and ride his beloved John Deere tractors. Larry enjoyed all of the family get-togethers at Christmas, birthdays, and cook outs. His family meant the world to him. Left to cherish his memory are brothers, Greg (Peggy) Burris of Osceola, David (Jody) Burris of Dowagiac, and Robert (Kathy) Burris of Elkhart. Also surviving are nieces, Sandy Chambers, Jenny Burris, and Amy Burris, and nephews, Nathan Riddle, William Finn, and, Shawn Finn. His extended family includes Sandy's family, Naomi, Cheyenne, and, Mila, Jenny's family, Hannah, Allison, and, Michael, Amy's family, Thaias, Parice, Milan, and Bryce, and William's family, Ashley, Nick, David, and, his buddy, Kendal. He is also survived by his aunt, Betty Alson of Oregon, and cousins, Sue Shields, Ron Burris, and Coleen Holloway. Larry was born on August 14, 1946, to Eugene and Virginia (Smith) Burris, who both preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were grandparents, Robert and Nina Smith, and, Emery and Sarah Burris, and one nephew, Todd Finn. The family wishes to extend their thanks for the loving care he received at Golden Living, by the entire staff and his special nurses, Stella and Tammy. Everyone made him feel like family, and he regarded it his home away from home. Per Larry's wishes, there will be no services or visitation. Elkhart Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements. God speed, dear brother. We will miss you, but know your suffering is over. Thanks for the memories of growing up together, and all of the precious times we had together. Love you, until we meet again.
