Barbara Garrison Wood, 88, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.

She was born Dec. 23, 1928 to William (Bill) and Elizabeth “Betty” (Nolte) Dawson in Pueblo, Colorado.

She married James Carlos Garrison.

She attended Sublette High School, and several years later was accepted in the nursing program at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas.

She began working at the Sublette Hospital in 1959 for Dr. A. H. Thiemann. She also worked eight years at Satanta District Hospital, and five years in Wichita at St. Joseph Hospital, and the Wichita Clinic. She also worked as staff relief for nursing homes, home health, private duty care and other medical care providers. She also worked eight years at Liberal Hospital, and 14 years working for Dr. Ed Rathbun and Dr. Rick Nevens at the Rathbun Clinic, then returning to Haskell County working at Satanta Hospital and Satanta and Sublette Clinics. In total, she worked more than 50 years in the medical profession, eventually retiring in the same building she started in.

Survivors include son, Roy Williams “Bill” Garrison; daughters: Vanna Peterson and husband, Bruce, Jackie Durant and husband, Fred, Ruth Trahan and husband, Kim, and Beth Mills and husband, Dale; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandsons.

Memorial services will take place at a later date.

Burial will take place at the Banner Cemetery.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorials are suggested to the family in lieu of flowers.
