Margaret Ann Cleghorn, 83, of Hubert, passed away September 9, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice following a brief illness.
Margaret was born September 20, 1933 in Farmville, NC to William Elwood "Dick" Allen and Nellie Mae Williams Allen. In May 1951, she met a dashing young marine named James B. Cleghorn at Roses Dime Store in Farmville where she was employed. They married in Dillon, S.C., on December 22, 1951 and were together in love for 66 years.
Margaret is survived by her husband James Cleghorn of Hubert; her daughter and husband, Cynthia and William Woolfolk of Jacksonville; her son and wife, Bill and Nancy Cleghorn of Jacksonville; and four grandsons: Lance and wife Jenae Cleghorn of Maryland; Bill(y) and wife Kathleen Woolfolk of Jacksonville; Joseph Woolfolk of Cambridge, England; and Garland "Jon" and wife Liesa Woolfolk of Fayetteville.
Margaret was a kind and generous Christian woman; a genteel Southern lady who never met a stranger or forgot a birthday. She was known for her singing phone calls, her amazing chicken and Watergate salads and mile high pound cake. She loved peacocks and had a collection second to none. Margaret touched myriad lives and was loved by all!
Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service for Margaret on Wednesday, September 13 at 10:00am at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. Immediately following, the family will gather at Golden Corral, 2055 N. Marine Blvd, in Jacksonville.
