Monte Willis, loving husband, brother, son, uncle, friend and cowboy passed away unexpectedly in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sunday, June 25, 2017, after suffering a major heart attack. Words cannot express how much this remarkable man will be missed.
Mont was born in Ogden, Utah on June 14, 1965. His life was dedicated to being kind to all he knew and met. To Mont, no one was a stranger. His first thought was to serve and give aide wherever needed. His friends often said his caring influence enriched their lives. He was especially gifted in creating beautiful quilts he generously gifted to those he loved and those in need. His endless creativity was further evidenced in his love of gardening and the creation of gorgeous outdoor living spaces. His gardening skills were second to none. Mont loved to learn and was an avid, voracious reader on any topic that caught his interest. He also had an intuitive connection with animals, nature, and the ocean. He was a keen observer of life, always filled with awe and wonder.
Mont met the love of his life, Brian Johnson, on New Year's Eve 1999. Their great joy was finally having the opportunity to marry in California in 2008. They married once more on December 24, 2013, in Utah, just to make sure it stuck.
Mont started his medical career as a well-respected EMT. At the time of his passing, he was a Manager at Boston Scientific Cardiology, Rhythm, and Vascular. He loved, and was loved, by those with whom he worked. His work ethic was truly extraordinary.
Mont is preceded in death by his father, Monte Burrell Willis and his dogs, Toven, Mikey, and Beau. He is survived by his husband, Brian; his mother, Velma (Kyle); his "favorite and only" sister MeChelle, to whom he was particularly close (David); MeChelle's daughters Mallory, Jennifer, Britnee; in-laws Rick and Robby Johnson, their daughters Jentry Jo, Janzyn, Jaygan; Thomas and Marci Johnson Chapman, their daughter Cadi; Christian Wade Johnson; Marilyn Jesperson and Lisa Deschamps; dear friends Mark and Patsy Reep, Andrew and Julie Wright, Ivan and Marie Wright, David and Lisa Dyer, Ernie and Cindy Doose, Scott Perry, Karen Flynn and Michelle Gourley, Liz and Stu Knight, Chris Burrows and Susan Curtis; his dogs Cannon and Cooper and his fish Zsa Zsa and Eva.
The viewing for Mont will be held Friday, June 30th, 9:00 AM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, UT, with a grave service at 10:00 AM. Interment at Wasatch will follow services. In lieu of flowers, donations to a no-kill shelter would be appreciated, or please plant some flowers in his memory.
