Jean Delsie Light Sarver, 83, of Moneta, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2004, surrounded by her family at her side.

Born July 24, 1920, in Meadows of Dan, Va., she was the second of eleven children born to the late Jim and Pearl Light, formerly of Patrick County.

She lived her whole life in Patrick, Roanoke, and Bedford counties. She chose to lead a full and gratifying life of homemaking. Her love of flower and vegetable gardening gave her many hours of pleasure, nurturing the things she grew, preserving them for winter, keeping and using them to prepare countless meals for the family, and her extended family, whenever they came for a visit. Her life was centered around entertaining family at home and teaching her children and grandchildren to cook. She loved to travel. Other's well-being always came first in her mind.

She was a long-time member of Belmont Christian Church in Roanoke, and retired after 17 years with Roanoke City Public Schools, working with children with special needs.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Clyde, Hill, and Lillian Belcher.

She was a devoted wife of 62 years of a most devoted husband, Walter Sarver. Also surviving are three daughters: Earldeen Rorrer of Spencer, Va., Susanne Sigman and her husband Bob, of Charlottesville, Janette Burggrabe and her husband Charles, of Indiana; five sons: A. Richard and his wife Sandy, of Martinsville, Robert and his wife Brenda, of Richmond, Nelson and his wife Missy, of Roanoke, Larry and his wife Nora, of Roanoke, Gregory and his wife Christine, of Roanoke; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; five sisters and one brother: Lola Manning, Lois Sutton, Beulah Rigney, June Anne Sigmon, Jewel Alderman, Albert "Bud" Light.

The funeral services will be conducted at Belmont Christian Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2004, with the Rev. David Walton officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
