Jaciel Elaine Gray Blanch, our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on September 5, 2017. We honor her as our loving Mother.
She was born to Lottie Lucille James and Frank Ernest Gray on March 28, 1936 in Ogden, Utah. She was their youngest daughter and sister to Gayleen Gray Drake.
She met her sweetheart Garth Middleton Blanch, and they were married for time and all eternity on September 6, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away in April; she joined him the day before their 60th Anniversary. He lovingly called her “Queenie,” and was known by family and friends by this “nickname.” Together they were blessed with an eternal family, their greatest joy in life.
She attended Brigham Young University and Weber College, where she earned her associate degree and was a member of La Dianeda Sorority. She worked in Chicago, Illinois at Encyclopedia Britannica while her husband earned his dental degree. Following his graduation, she supported him in his US Army service and they lived in San Antonio, Texas; Fort Riley, Kansas; and eventually back in Ogden, Utah. This is where she and Garth raised their family and lived out their lives. When her children were older, she spent many years working as the business manager of their dental practice in Ogden. They traveled the world together. They loved spending time in St. George, Bear Lake, and Park City.
Jaciel, in addition to “Queenie” was also called Jace by her friends. Jace was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings, including Young Women’s advisor, Relief Society Instructor and Compassionate Service Leader, and Primary teacher. She had a firm testimony of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jace was a valued member of the community and enjoyed many clubs and organizations. She served as president of the Weber County Dental Society Auxiliary, and as a hospital volunteer in the emergency room at the McKay-Dee Hospital. Jace was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and proudly served as a member of the PTA. She and Garth were elected as Weber State University Alumni Emeritus Homecoming King and Queen in 1997.
Jaciel was a strong mother, with a keen intuition and will be forever remembered as a spiritual, ambitious, vibrant woman. She left an impact on many lives, and will be missed greatly. Her influence and involvement in the community and in her family’s lives will be her legacy. Jaciel was a woman of kindness and fun. She was gracious and loved to entertain. She was thoughtful, looking for anyone in need and made lifelong friends wherever she went. She had an artistic eye, and designed her own wedding dress and their home on Doren Drive in South Ogden. She devoted years to keeping faithful scrapbooks and journals. Jaciel lost her father when she was 16, and this loss shaped her into a hardworking and determined woman of ambition.
Surviving and honoring her memory are her four children: Scott Glen Blanch, Sr. and his wife, Jill, Careen B. Jensen and her husband, Mark, Celia Ann O’Dell and her husband, Steven, and Camette L. Behrmann and her husband, Kenneth; and brother-in-law, Charles F. Drake. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
